UNION Masterkey suite for Stoke-on-Trent mental health facility UNION, a leading manufacturer of security products within the health sector, has supplied a new masterkey system to a prestigious new mental health project in Stoke-on-Trent. Representing a significant development for the city centre area, the new facility is situated on the site of the former Little Sisters of the Poor convent, which was also renowned for supporting people with mental health problems. To maintain a high level of security without compromising on accessibility, the facility has had its existing system replaced by over 100 of UNION’s keyULTRA™ masterkey cylinders. The majority of the cylinders fitted incorporated thumbturns with clutch release functionality. This clutch mechanism disables the thumbturn once the key has been inserted into the cylinder. This allows the door to be unlocked even if the thumbturn is being held in the locked position from the inside, making it ideal for places where a non-keyholder could hold the thumb turn in the locked position to prevent the door from being opened. KeyULTRA™ is a 6 pin masterkey cylinder that possesses one of the longest patents on the market, lasting until 2028, meaning that the cylinder and keys cannot be copied. Designed with reliability and durability in mind, keyULTRA™ has been tested to 500,000 cycles and also has over half a million key differs. It has received the highest grades for key related security and attack resistance in relation to BS EN 1303:2005 when used in conjunction with a security escutcheon. The combined expertise of UNION and Viking Hardware, who supplied the suite, alongside contractor Alaway Construction, has led to the successful completion of a challenging and unusual project. Rory Summers, Project Manager for Viking Hardware, commented: “After having several problems with the previous system that was in place, using the KeyULTRA™ was a massive boost as it has worked faultlessly and has delivered a high level of security.” Simon Wilson, Regional Sales Manager for UNION, said: “In using our experience of working within the health sector, we have been able to supply a patent protected masterkey system that is tailored to fit the needs of the facility.” For further information on UNION’s products and design solutions please visit www.uniononline.co.uk.
