magnetic catch (np)
catch which uses the magnetic attraction of a permanent magnet to hold two components together

magnetic lock (np)
lock which uses the magnetic attraction/repulsion of a permanent magnet control the locking function

main closing edge (np)

manipulative attack (np)
attempt to gain illegal entry into a building using probing and/or picking techniques

manual (adj)

manual activation (np)
(Product specific term - see prEN 12650)

manual control (np)

manual operation (np)

manual release (np)

manual reset (np)
inbuilt function of any device or assembly to manually reinstate functional capability after the cessation of the condition which caused the response (see also prEN 14637)

manufacturer (n)
organisation that actually makes a product. Note: means the same as "producer" within the CPD (see also EN 179 & EN 1125)

master key (np)
key that operates locks of all combinations within a particular suite

master keyed suite (n)
set of locks and/or padlocks related by a common key, or keys

master keying / suiting (np)
adaptation of locks to operate with keys of more than one combination

master pin (np)

maximum opening stop (np)
hardware, or part of hardware that, for reasons of safety, limits the maximum opening of a sash or casement (now same as CEN/TS 13126-5)

maximum working temperature

mechanical digital lock (np)
lock having a keypad with buttons which are operated in a pre-determined sequence to enable the bolt to be withdrawn

mechatronic cylinder (np)
device with electrical and/or electronic components, which is to be used with a lock for the purpose of operating the lock after verifying the authorisation of a user and which can be replaced by a mechanical cylinder to EN 1303 without replacing any door furniture. (see also WI 33/299) a lock for the purpose of operating the lock after verifying the authorisation of a user and which can be replaced by a mechanical cylinder of EN 1303 without replacing any door furniture.

mullion (np)
vertical member between the lights of a window frame

multi-panel folding door (np)
folding door comprising two or more hinged leaves (see also EN 1527)

multipoint bolt (np)
arrangement in which several bolts can be withdrawn in a single action

multipoint lock (n)
lock comprising more than one locking point, anti-separation point or clenching point, interlinked and centrally controlled (see also EN 12209 & WI 33/250)

mushroom roller / mushroom driver (np)
top pin with undercut groove which when under-lifted allows the plug to rotate a small amount thereby frustrating attempts to pick the cylinder
