Feedback expected and acted on

We value opinions, input and feedback. That’s why our employee survey is such an important tool. Each two years more than 25,000 employees tell us what they think of the company as a basis for concrete action plans to address issues whether they are Group-wide, country specific or local.

Our 2012 results continue a trend of steady improvement, which we see as proof that our plans are workings.

Given our philosophy of freedom to act and learning from our mistakes, it is particularly pleasing that the highest ranking in the latest survey concerned clear understanding of roles and responsibilities and expectations on performance.

Feedback about the level of innovation and customer focus was also more positive, reflecting out focus areas for business growth.

In the UK, we have implemented additional executive level communication strategies throughout our region to strengthen the channels for communication and to ensure that all employees are well informed about the business and are fully engaged in achieving our objectives. 

Furthermore, as a direct result of the employee survey feedback, a new team has been established in order for us to focus on culture and communications, which will help us to build a sense of community within the business and also to ensure that employees are fully briefed on business performance and key changes.  We are confident that this initiative will ensure that employees have maximum clarity and direction and will fully appreciate their contribution to the business within the roles that they perform.

Career development opportunities

Our commitment to recruit from within where possible remains strong.  In the UK, we have invested heavily in providing opportunities for employees to develop leadership skills in order to progress within the business.  Additionally, opportunities to develop other skills are being encouraged and we are working on our intranet facility to make such opportunities better accessible for all employees.
